AIMP3로 버전업되면서 가장 눈에 띄는 차이점은 역시 디자인이 아닐까.
기본 스킨으로만 비교한다면 AIMP3는 좀 더 세련되어졌다. 거기에 반투명 기능까지 생겨 더 멋져보인다.
또한, AIMP2의 스킨을 AIMP3에 사용할 수도 있다.

가장 큰 특징은 AIMP만의 사운드 엔진(Sound Engine)을 탑재했다는 것이다.
디폴트 상태에서 AIMP2와 AIMP3로 음악을 들어보면 차이가 느껴질 것이다.
저가 스피커에서는 별로 티가 안날 수 있다. 그런데 아무래도 음장이라는게 사용자의 취향에 따라 갈라져서 맘에 드는 사람이 있는가 하면 싫은 사람도 있기 마련일 것이다.

측정환경 : E7400 @2.8GHz / DDR2 4GB / avast5 실시간보호 (트레이), OpenCapture 만 실행 / 각 플레이어에서 동일한 48kHz 256kbps mp3 파일을 실행

사운드 엔진 덕택인지, 조금은 무거워졌다.
메모리 점유율이 증가하였는데, AIMP2가 7000KB~8000KB 사이를 왔다갔다 하는데 AIMP3는 15000KB~20000KB 사이를 왔다갔다 한다.
단, AIMP3를 트레이로 보내면 10000KB 대로 떨어진다.
메모리 점유율은 소프트웨어 환경에 따라서, 음악 파일에 따라서 다르겠지만, 확실한건 AIMP3가 조금 무거워 졌다는 것. 가벼운 맛에 썼던 유저에겐 나쁜 소식일지도 모르겠다.
하지만, AIMP3는 아직 베타 단계의 버전임을 감안하면 개선될 것이라 생각한다.

또다른 큰 특징에는 이전버전엔 할 수 없었던 리플레이게인 기능을적용할 수 있게 됐다.
